There are two variants of Quartz, which can be subdivided into other more specific sub-types. The two main branches of quartz are macrocrystalline quartz and cryptocrystalline quartz.

Care

• Quartz has relatively good hardness and durability. It is harder than other stones, but still softer than others. To clean quartz, simply use plain water and a mild soap or detergent if necessary. Wipe the stones with a soft cloth and make sure the stone is well washed to remove any soapy residue. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat and avoid large temperature fluctuations. As with most minerals, avoid the use of heat steamers and ultrasonic cleaners.
• It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from the others to prevent damage and possible scratches. It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
