History
- Its name comes from the Latin word "lapis", meaning "stone", and from the Arabic and Persian word "lazaward". Lazaward was the Persian name for Lapis stone and the name of the mine site where it was first found. Technically, it is defined as a stone (rock) and not as a mineral.

Care
- Lapis Lazuli is softer than many gemstones, but with care, jewellery and products made from it can last for generations. Lapis Lazuli is quite sensitive to strong pressure, high temperatures and to various household chemicals and cleaning agents. Avoid exposing lapis to bleaches and sulphuric acid. Lapis Lazuli can be easily cleaned with cold water and mild soapy water. It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a cloth-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from other stones to prevent self-damage and possible scratches.
- It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
