History
- Moldavite was first named "chrysolites" after Professor Josef Mayer of the University of Prague. The name was later replaced by "Moldavite" after "Moldauthein". Moldauthein is the place where a Moldavite specimen was first discovered and described. It belongs to the tektite group. It is a natural glass and its colour is olive-green to brown-green. Moldavite was sometimes thought to have been formed from the vapours of a meteorite falling to earth.

Care
- Moldavite is quite soft and brittle compared to most other gemstones. Avoid using chemicals or cleaning agents when cleaning Moldavite. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. It can be cleaned with mild soap and a soft cloth. Be sure to rinse off any soapy residue well. It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a cloth-covered box or wrap them in cloth separately from the others to prevent self-damage and possible scratches.
- It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
