History
- Rutile is named after the Latin word "rutilah", which means golden red and refers to its colour, which is particularly visible under light. When Rutile occurs in Quartz, Kunzite and Hematite it is also called "Angel Hair", meaning "angel hair". Rutile is the ore of Titan. It forms in beautiful needle-like inclusions. Rutile needles have very beautiful patterns and look like miniature sculptures. Each Rutile is quite unique. Some have very thin, hair-like needles, others have a dense group of thicker needles. The tiny Rutile needles found in stones cause an optical phenomenon known as a star. Rutile crystals often form elbow-shaped or cyclic twins.

Care
- Rutile can be quite sensitive to strong pressure, high temperatures and harsh household chemicals and cleaning agents. Avoid exposing Rutile to bleach or sulphuric acid. Clean Rutile with warm soapy water. Wipe the stone with a soft cloth and make sure it is well rinsed to remove any soapy residue. It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-lined box or wrapped in a cloth separately from the others to prevent self-damage and possible scratches.
- It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
