- Ime »Apatit« izhaja iz grške besede, kar pomeni »goljufija« saj je zelo podoben nekaterim drugim dragim kamnom. Pojavlja se v različnih barvah in oblikah in je zelo pogost mineral. Prosojni Apatit je zelo redek. Apatit lahko včasih kaže učinek mačjega očesa, kar je posledica odbijanja svetlobe iz vzporednih vključkov v kamnu (običajno iglic Rutila ali vlaken). Apatit raste kot kristal znotraj Granitnih pegmatitov, metamorfnih in magmatskih kamnin. Lahko se razlikuje po sestavi na podlagi vsebnosti hidroksidov, florovih ali klorovih ionov.

Care
- To clean Apatite, simply use soapy water and a soft cloth. Be sure to rinse the stone well to remove any soapy residue. As with most gemstones, ultrasonic cleaners and steamers are not recommended. It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a cloth-covered box or wrap them in cloth separately from the others to prevent self-damage and possible scratches. It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
