Amethyst

History

  • Amethyst is one of the most precious stones belonging to the quartz group (quartz group of minerals). It belongs to the macro crystalline branch of quartz. Amethyst crystals grow on the inner surface of Agate geodes, which can grow up to several centimetres. Geodes containing Amethyst often reach several metres in height. Its magnificent colour, which ranges from deep purple to pale greyish-purple, is dependent on the presence of aluminium, manganese and iron. Amethyst can also appear as reddish-purple or yellow-purple (depending on the combination of minerals in the quartz).

Care

  • This stone is quite hard and durable, so it can be cleaned with a steamer and an ultrasonic cleaner. Amethyst can be easily cleaned with warm water and mild soap. Wipe it with a soft cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to heat as it can cause permanent damage to Amethyst.
  • It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from the others to prevent damage and possible scratches. It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
