History

Aquamarine is usually heat-treated to remove the yellow tints. This process brings out the light blue colours more clearly. The natural blue and green colours of Aquamarine are derived from divalent Iron and metal ions.

Care
- Although Aquamarine is a hard stone, 7.5-8 on the Mohs hardness scale, its natural inclusions can cause it to crack if exposed to extreme temperatures or strong impacts. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the colour to fade. It should be cleaned with lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush.
- It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from the others to prevent damage and possible scratches.
