History
- Charoite is a rare silicate mineral with a chemical composition of Phosphorus, Calcium and Sodium. It was first discovered in the Chara River (Russia) in 1940, from which it takes its name. The Murun complex in Yakutia (Siberia) is the main source of Charoites. The colours of Charoite are unmistakable and range from lilac to lavender, light purple to medium dark lilac. Most Charoites show a purple tint and a very unique pattern, often striped or feather-shaped. It is these patterns that are specific to Charoite and are due to the interconnected complex fibrous crystals. Some Charoites may also have green, black or orange streaks resulting from inclusions and impurities of Tinaksite and Agerine.

Care
- Charoite can be quite sensitive to strong pressure, high temperatures and harsh household chemicals and cleaning agents. Avoid exposing Charoite to bleach or sulphuric acid. Clean the Charoite with warm soapy water. Wipe the stone with a soft cloth and make sure it is well rinsed to remove any soapy residue.
- It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from the others to prevent damage and possible scratches. It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
