History
- Kunzite was first discovered in Connecticut (USA) and named after George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932), an American mineralogist and former vice-president for Tiffany & Company. Kunz was the first to thoroughly describe the stone in 1902. The colour of Kunzite can range from pale pink to light purple. Its colour is due to traces of Manganese. When exposed to direct sunlight for a long time, Kunzite's colour may fade. Kunzite is an important industrial source of Lithium, used to make medicines, ceramics, mobile phones and car batteries.

Care
- Kunzite is relatively hard, but must be handled with care. It is sensitive to heat and strong light. Its colour may fade when exposed to direct sunlight. Avoid the use of ultrasonic cleaners and steam. Kunzite can be effectively cleaned with soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaners, including bleach and acid.
- It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a fabric-covered box or wrapped in cloth separately from the others to prevent damage and possible scratches.
