History
- Labradorite takes its name from Labrador, Canada, where it was found in 1770 on Paul Island, near the town of Nain. Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar that has a blue-green lustre. This optical effect is so unique that it has been called 'labradorescence' and is caused by the refraction of light in the stone. There are three types of Labradorite; Spectrolite, Andezin-Labradorite and Rainbow Moonstone (Madagascar Moonstone). As the trade name suggests, Moonstone comes from Madagascar and has an intense blue lustre. Spectrolite is a rare form of Labradorite from Finland. Andezin is a Labradorite created by enhancing the colour of the Labradorite itself.

Care
- To clean your Labradorite, simply use soapy water and a soft cloth. Be sure to rinse the stone well to remove any soapy residue. As with most gemstones, ultrasonic cleaners and steamers are not recommended. It is best to store stone jewellery and the stones themselves in a cloth-covered box or wrap them in cloth separately from the others to prevent self-damage and possible scratches.
- It is advisable not to wear jewellery during major physical activities such as exercise or sports. Avoid spraying perfume and hairspray directly on your jewellery and stones.
