History

  • The name 'onyx' comes from the Greek word 'onux', meaning 'nail', because the translucent white colour of the layers within is similar to a fingernail. Onyx is a form of Chalcedony, which is microcrystalline Quartz. It is formed in the gas cavities of lava. Onyx is black and white Agate and should not be confused with Onyx-Marble, which is Limestone. When a stone has a black base and a white top layer it is called Onyx. When it has a brown base it is called Sard-Onix and when it has a red base it is called Carnelian.

  • Za čiščenje Oniksa preprosto uporabite milnico in mehko krpo. Bodite prepričani, da Oniks dobro sperete in odstranite morebitne ostanke milnice. Kot pri večini drugih kamnov ni priporočljivo uporabljati ultrazvočna čistila in parnike. Shranjevanje nakita iz kamnov in same kamne je najbolje dati v škatlo prevlečeno s tkanino ali pa jih zavijemo v krpico ločeno od ostalih in s tem preprečimo samo škodo in morebitne praske.
